Academic Programs

cap

The Classical Academic Program or CAP is an academic program designed for the individually motivated resident student at the Nutmeg from grades nine through twelve.  It attracts a committed and dedicated group of dancers whose passion for dance is coupled by a unique college preparatory curriculum.  The accredited program provides flexibility in scheduling and individual support from Keystone instructors as well as two-fold preparation for artistic careers and higher education.  Students move at a pace suited to their individual needs and can earn both high school and college credits.  Students take supervised CAP classes from 8:30 am -12:30 pm, five days a week with a 15 minute break.  Students are encouraged to take PSATs, SATs, and ACT exams in preparation for entrance into colleges and universities.

Keystone National High School

The Classical Academic Program is an on-line academic program that supports the relationship between the Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts and Keystone National High School.  Keystone is an accredited high school degree-granting program, designed to provide an alternative to traditional public and private schools, and most importantly to meet the needs of young, pre-professional students.  Students utilize textbooks, distance-based technology, and individual instruction to learn at a pace suited to their needs.  CAP facilitates access to Keystone National High School with the close supervision and guidance of the Principal of Academics (see bio under faculty and staff) in conjunction with Keystone administrators and instructors.  Students are expected to graduate with a total of 21 credits earned through Keystone (or approved by Keystone if earned through another institution) by the time they complete their senior year, and are allowed a maximum of five courses to complete per year.

Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts covers the costs associated with five (5) Keystone courses for each of our academic students.  In any event, Nutmeg will only cover the cost of Keystone credits needed to supplement credits transferred from another educational institution in order to reach the required 21 credits needed to receive a Keystone diploma.  Payment for any courses over and above the 5per academic year or the total number of actual Keystone credits required for graduation are the responsibility of the parent and will be billed to the parent accordingly.  Should a student choose to drop a course and select a different course, any and all fees associated with that transfer would be the responsibility of the parent/student.
